Among Utah’s refugee community are the Karen and Karenni people from the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar, a nation formerly known as Burma. Using a backstrap loom, an ancient and portable technology, they still produce domestic textiles – – a skill they kept alive even while living in Thai refugee camps for the last 30 years.
