UKRAINIAN BEADED NECKLACES

Demonstrating Artists

Anna Medley, Orslava Sorenson, & The Utah Ukrainian Association

Friday & Saturday only, Canopy D

Beaded necklaces called gerdans are among the traditional Ukrainian arts that are alive in Utah today. Anna Medley and Orslava Sorenson both learned to make them from Nata Stone after all three met here in Utah. Like traditional clothing, these necklaces have been made for generations in rural areas throughout western Ukraine and styles and colors identify them as being from specific regions. They have recently become popular among a more general public interested in craft and in making something beautiful to wear.
