Cynthia & Jachelle Yazzie
Friday, Saturday and Sunday – Canopy G
Cynthia Yazzie was born in Cortez, Colorado and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Aneth, Utah. Her mother wove rugs using naturally dyed wool from the sheep the family raised but Cynthia was more interested in making pottery. She persisted in teaching herself to build pots by hand and today she makes a living by selling her colorful and beautifully crafted pieces at art shows throughout the West. Her daughter Jachelle Yazzie, born and raised in Salt Lake City, is also a talented and award-winning potter. All of Jachelle’s work is etched freehand with a unique twist on traditional Navajo seed jar pottery.
