Augusta Mason has been making prize winning pottery for over a decade, an art form she learned from her sister, Christine McHorse. Historically Navajo pottery was purely functional but McHorse, who refined her art after marrying into a family of Taos Pueblos, combines traditional Navajo forms with Pueblo technology to craft unique, organic and elegant shapes. Alberta, who lives here in Utah, gathers clay from our mountains and deserts and fires her pots at a low heat, carrying on this combined Navajo-Pueblo tradition in her own work.
