Highland Dance is a style of competitive solo dancing developed in the Scottish Highlands in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is often performed to the accompaniment of Highland bagpipe music, and here in Utah it is a popular style of dance performed at Scottish festivals and at other community events.

The Mountain West Highland Dance Association, or MWHDA, is a nonprofit organization which is dedicated to the preservation, study, teaching, and enjoyment through express of the ethnic history and traditional dance of Scotland, through performances, workshops, and competitions.
