When she was a young teenager, Chue Thao’s family spent years in a Thai refugee camp but persevered in practicing their Hmong traditions. Chue learned sewing, cross-stitch, and embroidery from her grandmother and mother, while her father made jewelry to sell so her family could survive. Chue’s contemporary spin on traditional Hmong embroidery keeps the story of her family and Hmong culture alive in Utah.
